6 Reasons I Only Go To Planet Salon For My Haircut
1. The Location
Planet is less than a mile from the hotel so it’s easily walkable. It’s right next door to Fred Segal. Afterwards you can show off your new haircut by dining in the cafe or shopping for something nice.
2. The Atmosphere
Many upscale salons (especially around West Hollywood) can feel snooty and intimidating. Planet is welcoming and friendly. While waiting for my appointment I was offered, “Coffee, water, or tea?” “Water please.” “Flat or sparkling?” “Flat.” “Perrrrfect,” the host replied, like I had just made the most elegant choice in the world.
I don’t let anyone touch my hair except Julia. The first time I went she gave me the perfect Alexa Chung long bob. I was obsessed with it. This time I went full bob. She killed it. Julia loves her job and it shows in the quality of her work.
4. Jack Of One Trade
Every person who works here is an specialist in their field. They have expert colorists and expert stylists. No one crosses over.
5. The Head Massage
Planet always starts with a neck and shoulder massage. You get a choice of essential oils (I always choose eucalyptus) to relax you before your cut. The shampooing is my favorite part. How come head massages aren’t a more popular concept? They’re heaven.
6. The Family Vibe
Ginger Boyle is the owner and head stylist. She somehow still has time to serve you a drink or sweep the floor at night. She is very hands on with her mentees and her hospitality carries on through her staff. My hair appointment had to be rescheduled at the last minute, so they offered me a killer deal for this cut and my next one. “Perrrrfect.”
